The Leadership Imperative and Operationalizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in your workplace is a process for creating change through education, collaboration and vigilance. Courageous leaders that guide their organizations on a DEI journey foster evolving levels of insight that results in growth and new experiences for individuals and the organization. Working to achieve diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments has numerous demonstrated benefits, including enhanced innovation faster problem solving.
As a result of this program participants will learn:

- The leadership imperative
- Organizational culture and DEI
- Operationalizing a DEI strategy
Swafia Ames, a Managing Director, People Strategy & Inclusion with Brighter Strategies has designed, managed, and marketed global diversity and inclusion programs for two American Lawyer magazine Top 100 law firms (Baker & Hostetler LLP & Paul Hastings LLP). In her capacity as a diversity and inclusion manager she designed and managed initiatives aimed at attracting, developing and advancing diverse lawyers. Key initiatives spearheaded included, recruiting, mentoring, leadership, professional development programs, and facilitating difficult conversations about race, gender, and cultural differences in the workplace.
Throughout her 20+ year career Swafia has supported a wide range of organizational development and human capital management initiatives including talent acquisition and development, workplace programs and policies, Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) program management, organizational learning, and performance management. Swafia employs a DEI lens as part of her process for designing and implementing organizational development and human capital management initiatives. She is adept at identifying challenge areas within an organization and working collaboratively to develop and implement equitable and effective solutions.
Swafia earned her B.A. degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD and her M.A. degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC. She has also been certified by the Society of Human Resources Management as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
Swafia is currently serving as the President of the Human Resource Society of Prince George’s County (HRSPGC) an affiliate of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). HRSPGC is focused on the involvement and empowerment of HR professionals in Prince George’s County, MD by hosting professional development and networking activities.Register Now
